Russ Feingold, JD Biography

Former US Senator (D-WI)
Pro to the question "Should the Words “under God” Be in the US Pledge of Allegiance?"

“I disapproved of the Court of Appeals’ decision in Newdow v. U.S. Congress, the Pledge of Allegiance case. I joined with my Senate colleagues when we unanimously expressed our view that the Pledge is constitutional. The phrase ‘under God’ in the Pledge is not, and should not be construed as, government establishment of religion.”

Constitution, Civil Rights and Property Rights Subcommittee hearing, June 2004
